New Season, Fast Start: Alma Vale Pair Impress in Early Trials

The eagerly awaited two-year-old trials for the new season are underway, and Alma Vale graduates have wasted no time making their presence felt.

In New Zealand, Rupeni (2c Home Affairs x Yolanda) produced a polished performance at Te Rapa, storming home from off the pace to score by a neck over 730m. Trained by Stephen Marsh and partnered by George Rooke, the $160,000 Inglis Easter purchase (Stephen Marsh Racing / Dylan Johnson Bloodstock) is the second foal of Yolanda—a Shamus Award half-sister to Group 3 winner Tallow, dam of Golden Slipper hero Farnan and stakes winner Sandbar.

Closer to home, at Randwick’s Kensington track, Give Her Strength (2f Farnan x The Promise) showed promise of her own, finishing third in an 850m heat. Trained by John Thompson, the filly was secured for $90,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
